Southampton buses support ambitious plans for cleaner air in Southampton

Southampton City Council, in partnership with four of our local bus companies, has secured £2,677,835 from the Government’s Clean Bus Technology Fund (CBTF) to retrofit buses and help reduce harmful emissions. Southampton is one of 20 cities from across the country who have won a share of the Joint Air Quality Unit’s £40 million funding pot.The money will be used to retrofit 145 buses that operate in the Southampton area, and will therefore help achieve the Council’s ambitions to improve local air quality on busy bus corridors.

The programme of retrofitting these older buses will commence in spring 2018 and will take approximately ten months to fully retrofit the identified vehicles.
